5 Designers Who Broke The Rules

1) RICHARD SERRA

Richard Serra is an American minimalist sculptor and video artist known for working with large-scale assemblies of sheet metal.
The Matter of Time

These are unexpectedly transformed as the visitor walks through and around them, creating an unforgettable, dizzying feeling of space in motion

The layout of the works along the gallery creates corridors with different, unexpected proportions (wide, narrow, long, compressed, high, low). The installation also includes a progression in time. On the one hand, there is the chronological time that it takes to walk through and observe it from beginning to end.

2)PAUL SMITH

Paul Smith a British Fashion Designer, is known for his idiosyncratic take on traditional British styling having coined the term 'classics with a twist'.

I like how he incorporates his clothing designs into products such as the Evian bottle. Although it is just a mineral water bottle, i feel that Paul Smith's touch changes a plain bottle into a high-en drinking bottle.

3) DAVID FLETCHER
David Fletcher has been designing and manufacturing furniture for over thirty years. He started life in the antique business, dealing in English and continental furniture of the 17th and 18th centuries, and this gave him a strong understanding of form and proportion, taught him construction, and a knowledge and love of wood.

The expandable Capstan Table

It’s a round table with a simple and chic design and it hides a marvelous secret. The table can expand from a small size to a larger one while maintaining its circular design during the process.

4) Yuki Yamamoto
Canvas Furniture

This collection is the ingenious creation of YOY and it’s called canvas. It includes furniture which you can hang on your wall. It’s made of wood, aluminum and stretched elastic canvas.

5)FANNY ADAMS

Fanny Adam, a student at École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs (EnsAD) in France, recently released a final project she calls "Story" which combines the sofa, workstation and bed in one very functional solution. This multifunctional piece is ideal for small homes and can allow you to use the living room as a home office and guest bedroom.
